SCA Sensory Skills — Professional

SCA certification — Sensory Skills module

The Sensory Skills Professional course builds on the Intermediate course and prepares the learner for managerial job functions in the sensory assessment of coffee and related products. Learners gain alignment with industry standards and sensory science best practices, explore implementing sensory assessment in a coffee business, evaluate qualities in specialty green coffee, and learn to accurately measure, describe and interpret coffee beverage characteristics. A written exam and a practical exam test the knowledge and skills covered.

This course is designed for professionals aiming to deepen their expertise in specialty coffee and refine their sensory skills for career advancement. It’s tailored for:

  • Experienced coffee professionals
  • Baristas & roasters
  • Quality control specialists
  • Coffee tasters

This training is aimed at professionals who have held the Intermediate certification for more than 3 months. This level allows for a deeper understanding of specialty coffee tasting. The SCA cupping form is used throughout the training to calibrate like professionals, and specific tastings of sensory and roasting defects are conducted. A theoretical part focuses on sensory tests and statistical analysis, giving participants the skills to implement sensory programs in business contexts.
