Brewing Skills — Expert

Brewing Skills — Expert

A deeper, scientific look at brewing: water, brewing parameters and the brewing control chart.

Participants are recommended to have 3 to 6 months’ work experience preparing brews with an automatic drip filter brewer and a manual drip filter brewer, or another culturally common brewer.

The Brewing Expert course builds upon the concepts and skills introduced in the Brewing Advanced course. Learners take a deeper, more scientific look at the Essential Elements of Good Brewing, what happens when brewing parameters are manipulated, and how to master navigation of the coffee brewing control chart. They gain a deeper understanding of water and its impact on brewing, using the principles of aim, measure and treatment. A professional brewer’s most powerful tools are an analytical mind and the ability to process and manipulate many changing variables, in order to interpret information and offer solutions that improve coffee quality, service and delivery for their clients. A written exam tests professional course knowledge, while a practical exam tests the skills above based on the working activities carried out during the course.
